As an AWE customer, Loud & Clear decided to take advantage of the show apartment that AWE has at its HQ and set up a client demo.
Loud & Clear specialises in designing, installing, and maintaining AV systems in bars, restaurants, hotel, retail, residential, and education. This experience stood them in good stead when their latest project saw two of these worlds collide. An exclusive hotel in Brussels requested the integrator to provide them with a high-quality cinema room – something that is usually installed in a residential property.
The brief that Loud & Clear received from the client was to create a cinema room that provides a luxurious feeling, with emphasis put on excellent AV. They also required the system to be easy to use, as it would be operated by a variety of staff members.
As an AWE customer, Loud & Clear decided to take advantage of the Show Apartment that AWE has at its HQ and set up a client demo. Visiting Alexander House allowed the client to understand what kind of cinema room would be possible and after further conversations, a set up that featured products from AWE brands such as Definitive Technology, Denon, Euroscreen, KEF, and Sony, was agreed.
“Having experienced the speakers in the AWE Reference cinema, we opted for the KEF product range as it allowed us to provide the highest quality surround sound to fit in with the client’s budget,” commented Neil Phillips, Loud & Clear. “We had to carefully positioned the KEF Ci160QR in-ceiling speakers at various angles from a central ceiling mounted projector.”
KEF Ci160QR 160mm flush mounted speakers feature KEF’s sophisticated ’sit anywhere’ Uni-Q driver array, which places the tweeter in the acoustic centre of the bass/midrange cone, allowing both the tweeter and woofer to act as a single point source that disperses the sound widely and evenly throughout the room.
Loud & Clear also installed a pair of KEF R11 floorstanding speakers and a KEF R2c centre speaker. Boasting four 165mm hybrid aluminium bass drivers, the R11 digs deep and retrieves an exceptionally clean and musical low-end performance. With the same Uni-Q as the R11, the R2c centre speaker features a 125mm midrange and 25mm aluminium dome tweeter. The R2c recreates every nuance, whilst matching the rest of the range tonally. The twin 130mm bass drivers allow the R2c to dig even deeper, ensuring that the audience doesn’t miss a beat.
To create a fully immersive sound experience, the Loud & Clear team matched the KEF speakers with a Definitive Technology SuperCube 6000 subwoofer to deliver 1500 watts of explosive, precise bass performance. The SuperCube subwoofer combines high impact bass with innovative features and wireless capabilities. It has been engineered for maximum performance, convenience, and connectivity.
A Denon AVC-X8500H AV amplifier provides exceptional sound quality and audio performance within the cinema room. With 13 channels of inbuilt amplification, as well as 13.2-channel processing, the AVC-X8500H enables premium 3D surround sound, featuring Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro 3D surround sound capabilities.
For the video side of the install, Loud & Clear chose to install a Sony VPL-VW270ES 4K projector. This model produces true 4K resolution with Sony’s latest 4K SXRD panels for stunning cinema viewing and incredibly lifelike colour. High brightness of 1,500 lumens guarantees exceptional picture even in well-lit rooms, whilst Sony’s TRILUMINOS colour reproduces more tones and textures, and excels in fast-moving scenes. The Sony projector is paired with an anti-reflective 2.5m electric screen from Euroscreen.
A Sony UBPX800M2B.CEK 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player provides 4K UHD resolution for the big screen experience, while Dolby Atmos and DTS:X create the authentic cinema atmosphere. The desired easy-to-use control is provided via a wall mounted iPad and the blu-ray player.
“This project presented a number of challenges along the way, but we are pleased with the end result, as is the client,” adds Neil. “We enjoyed working with the AWE team on this project – from the initial client demo to the products they supplied and advice they provided – it was an great example of the integrator and distributor working together with one goal in mind – deliver the best possible system to the client.”
