Choosing the Right ADEO Projection Screen

Choosing the right projection screen is an important part of any home cinema or media room installation. With a wide choice of screen types, surfaces and aspect ratios, ADEO offers highly customisable solutions to suit different rooms, projectors and viewing requirements.

Screen Types

For dedicated rooms, a fixed-frame screen can provide a permanent viewing solution, while motorised screens are ideal where the screen needs to disappear when not in use.

Plano is ADEO’s fixed-frame option, with customisable image widths up to 3 metres and a choice of surfaces and aspect ratios. For larger fixed installations, FramePro Rear Elastic is available above 3 metres wide, with a flush-to-wall mounting system and a choice of black varnished or flocked finishes.

For motorised installations, Rugby Plus is designed for on-wall or on-ceiling mounting and is available in tensioned and non-tensioned versions up to approximately 4 metres wide. Inceel provides a concealed solution, with the screen housed within a false ceiling and only visible when in use.

For multi-format home cinema, Movie Mask LR and Movie Mask TB offer adjustable masking. Movie Mask LR uses side masking, while Movie Mask TB uses top and bottom masking, allowing the screen to adapt to different content formats.

Screen Surfaces

The screen surface should be selected according to the room’s lighting, wall colours, projector and speaker positioning.

Reference White 2 is designed for critical, light-controlled home cinema applications, delivering consistent colour accuracy and hotspot-free performance. It is also available acoustically transparent.

Reference Grey 2 is designed to improve black levels while maintaining colour accuracy and is suited to rooms with bright walls or some ambient light.

For rooms with ambient light or bright-coloured walls, Ambient Grey is an ALR surface designed to work with high-brightness home cinema projectors. It requires a tensioned screen system.

Vision White and Vision Acoustik feature 0.5mm micro-holes, allowing speakers to be positioned behind the screen while helping minimise the luminosity loss associated with traditional perforated surfaces.

AWE can also supply higher-gain and rear-projection options for specific installation requirements.

Aspect Ratios

The correct aspect ratio depends on the content the system will primarily be used for.

16:9 (1.78:1) is the standard format for HD and UHD TV content, including sport and news. For movie-focused systems, wider formats such as 2.39:1 and 2.40:1 are commonly used for cinema content.

A 16:9 screen is generally suited to TV and sports, while 2.4:1 can provide a more cinematic experience for movie-focused systems. Room dimensions should also be considered, particularly where width is limited.

For maximum flexibility, ADEO’s Movie Mask LR and Movie Mask TB allow the screen to change aspect ratio using side or top-and-bottom masking.
