A Cinema Room Designed for Movies and Gaming - Case Study

We recently worked with Surrey-based technology integrator, Evolution Communications, to create a superb home cinema room that the family could use to watch TV and movies, and for the two teenage sons to have a space for gaming.

The property in Cheam, Surrey, was undergoing a renovation, which included the design and installation of a brand-new cinema room. The brief was to create a clean modern space for everyday use, complete with fantastic sound, unbeatable picture quality, and stylish seating.

The challenge for Evolution Communications was to create a high-performance room that provided the full cinema experience the homeowner required, within the budget. Supported by AWE, Evolution Communications specified and installed three KEF Ci3160RL-THX speakers and four KEF CI200QR ceiling speakers, which allowed for an incredibly immersive 5.2.2 audio experience with full Dolby Atmos sound.

This set up provides the homeowner with seamless, natural sounding audio with a wide dispersion area, allowing the whole family to be fully immersed in their favourite movies when relaxing in the leather finished home cinema seats, no matter where they are sitting in the room. With a modern silver finish, the KEF THX certified speaker system complements the modern interior of the room.

Two KEF Ci3160RLB-THX subwoofers were also installed powered by a dedicated KEF KASA500 sub amplifier, resulting in a set up that produces deep, punchy bass and the emotional intensity of full theatre sound quality.

A Marantz SR6013 AV receiver was specified which in partnership with the KEF speaker system delivers high powered immersive audio with outstanding clarity – great for music and movies alike. The 9.2 channel AV receiver features Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and DTS Virtual:X decoding for a truly immersive experience, with eight HDMI inputs allowing the homeowner to connect to multiple different zones.

To complement the audio, Evolution Communications specified a Sony VPL-VW270ES native 4K projector, also provided by AWE. Thanks to 4K native resolution and true 4K HDR upscaling capabilities from Sony’s latest 4K SXRD panels, the What Hi-Fi multi award-winning projector produces crisp, lifelike images, just like the director intended. Its 4K Motionflow reduces blur and maintains brightness in fast-moving action scenes, whilst TRILUMINOS colour brings the picture to life in incredible cinematic detail.

Paired with a Draper Clarion 119” fixed frame projection screen, which has a perfectly flat tensioned viewing surface for superior image quality, the family can enjoy high-quality movie-viewing and gaming.

For the finishing touch, nine black leather recliner FrontRow cinema seats were installed in three tiered rows, combining luxurious design with ultra-quiet internal, reclining motors, allowing the family to enjoy the home cinema in superior comfort at a very reasonable price point compared to many!

To ensure a tidy and reliable installation without visible wires, all of the tech was housed in a Sanus AV rack in the rear corner of the room, without compromising on aesthetics. Strip lighting was used to illuminate the tiered levels for added charm, whilst the modern, space-grey design of the room is accompanied by quirky, film-focussed décor.
