On December 7th, we were delighted to support the highly anticipated APEX Film Awards, hosted at the newly opened York Road Studios in Worthing, West Sussex, alongside Bowers & Wilkins and Sony. Sponsored by the Home Cinema Alliance (HCA), a leading advocate for high-quality home cinema entertainment, the event celebrated independent filmmakers and industry professionals from around the globe who redefined the art of visual storytelling, with awards presented across a range of categories including Best Drama, Comedy, Sci-Fi, Animation, and more.
The night was filled with memorable moments, as winners received recognition not just for their awards, but also for their exceptional contributions to film. Guests were treated to a showcase of award-winning films, enhanced by impactful sound from Bowers & Wilkins speakers and crystal-clear visuals from the Sony projector, ensuring a fully immersive experience for all attendees.
HCA Director, Stuart Burgess shared his enthusiasm for the event: “What a fantastic evening. It was an honour to be the headline sponsor of this year’s APEX Film Awards, representing both our members and the event’s supporters. We love the synergy between our member companies, creating stunning private cinemas, and APEX, which showcases independent filmmakers. Who knows? One of the award winners might be playing in one of our clients’ cinemas one day. I’m already looking forward to next year.”
AWE’s very own James Drummie, Product Manager, and Paul Mott, Director, supported the installation and also attended the awards event itself. Reflecting on the evening, Paul said: “It was a real pleasure to be at this year’s APEX Film Awards in Worthing. The awards were a great showcase of independent films with some unique and thought-provoking works. The Bowers & Wilkins speakers, paired with the fantastic Sony BRAVIA 8 projector, truly brought the soundtracks and immersive cinematography of these award-winning short films to life.”
APEX Festival Director Jonathan Brooks also highlighted the significance of the event: “This was truly a milestone in our festival journey, with global brands showcasing our award winners’ films with state-of-the-art equipment. Not only does this pave the way for increasing our offer to filmmakers but also sets a new quality standard for the future. As filmmakers ourselves, we understand the importance of screening films on high end equipment, as it’s often the only opportunity to experience them on the big screen.”
Now in its fourth year, the APEX Film Awards, has established itself as a premier event for celebrating groundbreaking films and the talented people behind them.
Notable Winners from the 2024 APEX Film Awards:
- Best Drama: The Calling, directed by Piotr Matyja

The awards ceremony served as a testament to the power of film and the ever-growing importance of emerging talent in the entertainment industry.
